Most Christians are taught that Jesus Christ is “God the Son,” the second person of the Trinity, and they thus assume that is why he was able to do all that he did here on earth. The Bible never says that, but let us suggest why that fallacious idea actually demeans the Lord Jesus. If he were God, nothing he did would have presented any real challenge for him. Beside that, the genuine identification with him that he calls us to is impossible to grasp.

We present the following simple scriptures for your consideration.

Acts 10:38
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

Because God was with him. Not because he was God, but because God was with him. We must look at what Scripture is saying and what it is not saying.

Acts 10:38 could have said, “…because Jesus was God.” But it does not, it says, “…because God was with him.”

God gave Jesus “the gift of holy spirit” without measure…

John 3:34 (NASB)
“For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for He gives the Spirit without measure.

At Jesus’ baptism, God gave him His spirit in order to equip him for his ministry. Jesus had full access to God via the power of holy spirit.

Colossians 1:19
For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him.

Starting with the apostles on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2), the Lord Jesus has filled each Christian with the fullness of the holy spirit he received from God (Acts 2:32,33).

Luke 24:49
I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

Ephesians 3:19
And to know this love that surpasses knowledge — that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

With that same holy spirit that Jesus had, each Christian can be like him and do as he did, as per the following verse, which would be out of reach if Jesus were really God in human flesh rather than a man who had to trust God as he asks us to do:

John 14:12
I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
